History

‘Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it’

George Santayana

The history department of Forres Academy equips pupils with an understanding of various different political, economic and social events and allows them to examine how these events have shaped Scotland, the UK, Europe and the wider world.  In addition to this pupils are given the opportunity to explore the ways in which these issues have created the modern world and the role of history on contemporary society.  Pupils develop transferable skills such as presentation, debate and analysis.  These skills not only afford pupils the tools necessary to be first class students of history but allow them to develop skills for the wider world, throughout their educational career and beyond. The department prides itself in offering a variety of lesson formats to suit a variety of learning styles. Pupils are encouraged to be active learners – with lessons based around role-play, song and other creative work as well as building literacy and numeracy skills. Above all the department aims to foster an enjoyable learning environment for all students.
